We were moved by Obama’s speech last night and wanted to contribute to the discussion, but we already found some great examples of that here and here. Instead, we thought we’d simply re-post the video for those of you that haven’t seen it and share the transcript of our immediate impressions.

lebvs: obama’s speech is good, he’s such a good orator
ev: it was really good
lebvs: i was feeling pretty critical and frustrated with him lately, and this kind of reminded me that he’s the same person we elected. and also, that he’s just a person, trying to hold it all together.
ev: me too, yeah. there’s so much pressure.
lebvs: which does not excuse his shortcomings
ev: but this is what we need in a president. who he chooses for a chief of staff is a decision with which we might disagree; but who he is as a person and how he represents the people of america are inherent qualities.
lebvs: he is human and able to connect, and able to bring us together as a country without using crazy war rhetoric, which is a skill. also, it’s crazy how much older he looks now. really drives home that like, fuck, what a taxing (heh) job. so, yeah—i think that warrants a blogpost.
ev: me too.

on crafting the perfect tweet to an idolized celeb, best known for her role on a certain 90s cult TV show:

“don’t say empowering. she’s an actress, not a human rights activist.” and “tweet! stop trying to be clever.”
